Women of Distinction
Academics
One of Sigma Lambda Gamma’s five principles is Academics. We believe that a solid education will provide opportunities for personal, professional and educational growth that we might not have otherwise. We have an obligation to ourselves, our families and our sorority sisters to achieve academic success. While we may need to ask for help from time to time, it is our responsibility to maintain the GPA standards that are set by our respective universities and the sorority.
Community Service
Community Service is an important component of the Sigma Lambda Gamma experience. Again, we have an obligation to our community to help those in need, just as others helped us to get to the places we are today. Participating in community service not only provides a tremendous benefit to those around us, it allows us to say “thank you” to those who offered a helping hand to us when we needed it.
Cultural Awareness
Sigma Lambda Gamma’s official motto is “Culture is Pride, Pride is Success”. Although a majority of the membership of Sigma Lambda Gamma is of Latin descent, it is important to be open to all cultures. Even the Latino culture itself is comprised of African, Asian, European and Native American legacies. Every sister is encouraged to explore her individual history and to share her findings with sisters in order to foster Cultural Awareness in the sorority. Just as our cultural history should be celebrated, so should new traditions created by sisters and chapters.
Social Interaction
One of the benefits of joining Sigma Lambda Gamma is the opportunity to interact with individuals of all personality types. By joining a sisterhood of so many different types of woman, we learn more about the world around us while gaining a deeper understanding of ourselves. As we are all different in so many ways, it is important to recognize and respect each other as individuals.
Morals and Ethics
Once we are initiated into the respected sisterhood of Sigma Lambda Gamma, we must remember that we are always viewed as representatives of the organization. Our behavior not only reflects our individual value systems, it influences others’ perception of the sorority. Providing a positive image of Sigma Lambda Gamma and its sisterhood is one more way that we can serve the organization now and in years to come.
